  • Is a gram-negative, rod-shaped  bacteria
  • Most strains are harmless though some can make you extremely sick
  • Pathogenic strains are divided into 6 pathotypes
  • Often found in the lower intestine of warm-blooded organisms
  • Is nonsporulating
  • Most are harmless and help keep digestive tract healthy
  • Can cause pneumonia, UTI’s and  breathing problems
