In a recent study funded by the National Institutes of Health, scientists successfully cured 100% of guinea pigs and rhesus monkeys infected with the Marburg and Ravn virus using monoclonal antibodies. Both viruses are relatives of the Ebola virus, and both are known to cause symptoms similar to Ebola in humans.
Monoclonal antibodies are identical immune cell clones of a parent cell. They are designed to bind to a specific part of the invading virus or bacteria. In this study, scientists gave the animals two doses MR191-N, a monoclonal antibody derived from someone who had survived Marburg disease.
Following the success of this study, researchers began performing additional safety testing and studies in an effort to begin performing the treatment on humans in clinical studies. You can read more on this study, here.
Have your own monoclonal antibody study and need laboratories to perform your research or testing?
Contract Laboratory can help you find laboratories for your testing, projects and research. We have helped many organizations find labs, the following:
- Biopharmaceutical manufacturer needs FDA GMP compliant bioanalytical laboratory for FDA GMP pharmaceutical testing of some of it’s pharmaceutical products: Protein Characterization for some of our in-house products that includes monoclonal antibodies and proteins.
- FDA GMP preclinical CRO needed for preclinical study: ELISA testing for tissue levels of Avastin and Lucentis monoclonal antibodies
- Northeastern USA bioanalytical laboratory needed for protein testing of 30 drug proteins, all human monoclonal antibodies, will be subject to R&D grade stability testing. Est. 1 mg / mL. Est > 95% purity
- Europe or USA Preclinical CRO needed for immunohistochemistry studies of monoclonal antibodies on human tissue panels
