What is DIN Testing?

Today, an engineering firm contacted us about finding a laboratory to perform DIN testing. So, we thought we would define and provide more information on DIN. A German standardization body, DIN stands for Deutsches Institut für Normung e.V. in German. Translated into English, it means German Institute for Standardization.
Founded in Berlin in 1917, DIN has developed about 30,000 standards. Interestingly enough, it has a DIN standard defining standards. DIN EN 45020 defines the term “standard” as a “document, established by consensus and approved by a recognized body, that provides, for common and repeated use, rules, guidelines or characteristics for activities or their results, aimed at the achievement of the optimum degree of order in a given context”
Some DIN Standards have other abbreviations following the DIN. If it has an EN after it, it means it is an European Standard that has been published unchanged in Germany. If it has an ISO after it, it means it is an ISO standard that has been adopted unchanged as a German Standard
